JEE Main requires a recent passport-style photograph and a separate signature, both in JPG within the KB range stated in the current NTA information bulletin. The photo must be clear, front-facing, and taken against a plain light background.
Exact requirements
| Item | Dimensions | File size | Format | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photograph | 200 × 230 px (typical) | 10–200 KB | JPG | Plain light background |
| Signature | per bulletin | 10–100 KB | JPG | Black ink, white paper |

Common rejection reasons for JEE Main
1. Selfie used as the photograph. NTA has disallowed selfies in past bulletins. Have someone else take the photo against a plain background.
2. Missing or wrong name and date on the photo. When the bulletin requires name and date printed on the image, omitting this text causes rejection even when pixels and KB are perfect.
3. Coloured or patterned background. Off-white walls and curtains fail automated checks. Use even lighting or background replacement to plain white/light tone.
4. Signature on lined paper or in blue ink. Scan or photograph black ink on plain white paper. Notebook lines read as noise at low KB.
5. File outside the KB window. Both under- and over-compression fail. Land inside the stated range after correct cropping — not below the minimum.
