The same photo and signature specification is generally used across SSC exams — CGL, CHSL, MTS and GD — but SSC changes requirements between cycles, so check the notification for the exam you're applying to.
Common rejection reasons for SSC
1. Photo older than the notification allows. SSC has required recent photographs, and in some cycles has asked for the name and date of the photograph to be visible on the image itself. If the notification asks for this, a photo without it is rejected even when the size is perfect.
2. Signature scanned too dark or too light. Photographing a signature on lined or greyish paper produces a grey background that reads as a smudge at 20 KB. Sign in black ink on plain white paper, in good light.
3. Signature in capital letters. SSC has rejected signatures written in block capitals in past cycles. Sign the way you normally sign.
4. File compressed below readability. Squeezing a photo far below the minimum to be safe destroys detail. Land inside the range, not under it — a 6 KB photo fails as surely as a 500 KB one.
5. Wrong file format.
JPG only. A PNG renamed to .jpg is still a PNG and will be rejected by
the upload check.
